Hi! My name is Mei A. I am the writer behind Chrysanthemum Pages. :)
This first post is my introduction so that you guys, the readers, know a little more about me!
I am an avid reader and writer with dreams of writing books some day in the nearby future. I currently study writing and literature in college in order to perfect my craft. I have always loved reading, even as a kid. So much so that when I would get grounded, I would get my books taken away, whereas other kids my age would have gotten their electronics confiscated.
There wasn't a moment in which I didn't have a book in my hand. I was able to read books containing hundreds of pages within the short span of a few days and give the whole summary to anyone who asked.
I was introduced to spoken word poetry in the fifth grade. We were taking poetry as an elective class and I vividly remember when the teacher decided to play a video of a spoken word poem, so that we could grasp an idea of what we'd be doing in the class. The video was titled "OCD" by Neil Hilborn on the Button Poetry YouTube channel. I was fascinated. I continued to ask the teacher to play more videos, feigning that I needed more examples when in actuality, I was so moved by this form of poetry that I craved more. I took writing poems seriously after that; doing so whenever I had the chance.
Throughout high school, I had written a few poems and short stories and even made it to read a story I had written aloud at Colombia University. I then was able to get an internship at YCTeen Magazine, and even though it was short lived, it was an amazing experience.
While I did begin to slow down with the writing after high school, I never really stopped. Always finding ways to use my gift to express myself. I struggle with vocalizing my feelings and learned that writing them out is something that isn't as difficult as one would expect. Writing has given me the opportunity to speak without talking. It allows me to give vivid imagery and emotions to the reader. It has given me the opportunity to be free and express myself in the best way I know. Chrysanthemum Pages is my little outlet. This is where I put my best work and give it to you. The reader. So thank you. Thank you for clicking on Chrysanthemum Pages and for sticking around. I hope that reading my work will make you feel as I did when I first discovered the beauty in writing.
Love,
Mei A.
